Dear readers of sportandbeauty. Spanish male models were all the rage even before Spain won FIFA 2010 Football World Cup. We dedicated one of our last posts to Jon Kortajarena and today’s post is going to be dedicated to another Spanish, Andres Velencoso. Andres Velencoso stands out for his hunky presence and naturally chiseled face that has opened him the doors for success in the fashion world. He’s starred in ad campaigns for top fashion brands such as H&M, Ermenegildo Zegna, Caramelo and L’Oreal amongst others but the campaign that launched him to stardom was Louis Vuitton’s 2003 Fall Winter campaign alongside American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez. Ah, he is the current Kylie Minogue's boyfriend. Here you are the Spanish supermodel Andres Velencoso. Enjoy.
Andres Velencoso Segura was born on March 11, 1978 in Tossa de Mar, Girona, Spain. Andres started modeling in 2000 after finishing high school when, encouraged by his mother Lucia, Andres signed a contract with the Spanish modeling agency Group Model Management leaving the family restaurant run by his father and shelving the idea of becoming a PT teacher to have a try in the fashion industry. The beginning of his career in the fashion world was far from successful as he was rejected because, apparently, his hunky appearance wasn’t what the European market demanded at that time. However the tide changed in 2001 when he moved to New York City and was signed by Q Model Management despite the fact that the Spanish model was unable to speak English. Andres soon caught the eyes of the famous photographers Michael Thompson and Francois Nars and his luck started to change.
In 2002 Andres Velencoso booked the Banana Republic Spring ad campaign and in 2003 starred in the Louis Vuitton ad campaign alongside actress and singer Jennifer Lopez and appeared in editorials for Vogue France and Citizen K magazines. In 2004 the Spanish model signed a contract with Chanel Allure Homme Sport fragrance, became the face of Loewe and appeared in the Spring issue of L’Officiel Homme and the following year landed on the cover of the winter issue of Arena Homme and appeared in Jean Paul Gaultier ad campaign alongside models Gisele Bundchen and Diana Dondoe. In 2006 Andres Velencoso landed on the cover of Uomo Japan and appeared in H&M catalog. 2007 was a frantic year for the Spaniard. Andres signed a contract with Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur de Male Cologne and became the face of Ermenegildo Zegna, Elie Tahari and Etro being photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for the fall issue of Vogue Homme. In addition to this the Spanish model appeared in V Man editorial dedicated to Wilhelmina male models and in November landed on the cover of Elle Spain alongside Czech model Petra Nemcova and a number of other male models. Finally in December Andres Velencoso landed on the cover of L’Officiel Hommes and appeared alongside Caroline Trentini in Vogue Italy photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg.
In 2008 Andres renewed his contract with Elie Tahari and Ermenegildo Zegna and is featured by V Man explaining his workout routine to keep always fit. In March Andres appeared alongside female models Linda Evangelista and Raquel Zimmermann in an editorial for V magazine and in an editorial for Esquire Spain. Andres also appeared in the Vogue Hommes “In Love” editorial along with model Daria Werbowy and in October begins to date Kylie Minogue. To put an end to this year Karl Lagerfeld photographed Andres for V Man’s fall issue. In 2009 Milan Vukmirovic photographed Velencoso for the cover of L’Officiel Hommes and Chad Pitman does the same for the fall issue of V Man. In 2010 Andres has been photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for Giuseppe Zanotti ad campaign and has appeared nude in Vanity Fair.
As we said before the Spanish model has been dating Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue since October 2008. As a curiosity we can say that Andres has his mother’s name Lucia tattooed on the left side of his chest and it is believed that on April 2009 he got the word Kylie tattooed below his hip as a sign of his devotion to the Australian singer. He is friend to fellow models Oriol Elcacho, Gabriel Aubry, Daria Werbowy, Gisele Bündchen, Jon Kortajarena, Marlon Teixeira and when off duty Andres likes playing darts, soccer and traveling.
