Dear readers of sportandbeauty. Today we are going we’re going to dedicate our post to piercings and what kind of piercings celebrities prefer. Body piercing has been all the rage for the last years and, of course, celebrities have joined this fashion trend enthusiastically. In a series of articles I’ll show which parts of their body celebrities prefer to pierce. Let’s advance that the belly button, the ear and the nose take the lead as far as piercings is concerned but, as you’ll see, there are more parts of the body suitable to be pierced. Ok, let’s now discover the fascinating world of celebrity piercings.
Perhaps the part of the body that celebrities prefer to wear a piercing is the belly button. Belly button or navel piercings are a relatively modern invention that can’t be traced back in time to primitive cultures. The invention of the bikini swimsuit, back in 1953, created a big fuss and the navel started to be considered as an object of the masculine desire. Bikini swimsuits revolutionized women’s lives in a moment where they were starting to fight for equality with men. Pierced navels began to become popular after model Christy Turlington showed up in a London Fashion Week sporting a ring in the middle of her navel. Christy was soon followed by Naomi Campbell that showed off a gold piercing with a small pearl embellishing her belly button. The final step was taken when both of them walked down the catwalk for Isaac Mizrahi wearing a navel piercing each. The way was paved for pierced navels and other celebrities like Madonna and Cher soon followed their example. From then on, models and actresses such as Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli, Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Keira Knightley or Beyonce don’t hesitate to show off their pierced navels.
There is no doubt that nose piercings are very attractive and can highlight the human face from which the nose is the most prominent feature (if you don’t believe me ask French actor Gerard Depardieu….). The origins of nose piercings can be traced back to the Middle East 4000 years ago. In the book of Genesis, Abraham requested her eldest maid to go and search for a wife for his son Isaac. The maid found Rebekah and one of the presents Rebekah received was a “Shanf” that, translated from Hebrew, means nose ring. From the Middle East, the nose piercing was brought to India by the Mogul dinasty in the XVIth century. In the Western culture, nose piercings started to be seen amongst the members of the “hippie” movement that traveled to India in the late 60,s. In the late 70,s, the nose piercing was adopted by the “punk” movement as a symbol of rebellion against conservative values. Nowadays nose piercings are socially accepted and many celebrities show them off proudly. In the next pictures you can see Christina Aguilera, Scarlett Johansson (I don’t know where I was looking at because I almost didn’t notice that she also had her hear pierced), Fergie, Pink and Kelly Clarson wearing nice nose piercings. Don’t dare to miss our next article about piercings and celebrities because there are many parts of the body left where to sport a piercing and some of them are really funny. Best regards.
