COCO ROCHA CANADIAN TOPMODEL

Dear readers of sport&beauty. Today’s post is going to be dedicated to one of the most beautiful models in the current fashion world, Canadian model Coco Rocha. She’s one of my favorite models because, besides being stunningly beautiful, Coco Rocha has a touch of mystery due, perhaps, to her piercing and enigmatic blue eyes. I’ll not continue this way because it seems I’m writing a mystery novel instead of an article for a fashion blog. Now let’s focus on Coco Rocha’s life and modeling career. Here you are Canadian model Coco Rocha. I think she’s really beautiful, isn’t she?

Coco Rocha was born in Toronto, Canada, on September 10, 1988 although her family moved to Richmond in the British Columbia at a very young age. From Irish, Welsh and Russian origin, Coco Rocha is the daughter of Juanita (a flight attendant) and Trevor (a plane ticket seller) and she’s got a sister, Lindsey, and a brother, David Morandin. Coco Rocha’s discovery happened in quite a funny way and was related with the fact that she is a lover of Irish traditional dance. In 2002 a scout talent named Charles Stuart approached Coco in an Irish dance contest and asked her whether she would like to work for him as a model. Coco had never thought before about becoming a model and she knew nothing about the fashion world, but she didn’t hesitate and decided to have a try in the fashion world. Looking at her angel face, it’s obvious that success was only a matter of time.

Coco Rocha started her modeling career in 2004 signing a contract with New York’s Supreme modeling agency. Two years later, Coco met the famous fashion photographer Steven Meisel and, soon afterwards, the Canadian model appeared in a magazine editorial together with fellow models Gemma Ward and Amanda Moore. This editorial marked the launch of her career and earned her to land in the cover of the issue of February 2006 of Vogue Italy. The following week, Coco trudged the catwalk in New York walking for the Spring Summer collections of some of the most prominent fashion designers such as Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs among others. During the unveiling of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall Winter 2007 collection inspired in Scotland’s Highlands, Coco Rocha opened the show performing an Irish dance on the catwalk. Coco’s performance surprised Vogue US magazine that named it “Coco’s moment” suggesting that it was a proof that supermodels had disappeared from the international fashion scene. Coco is one of the few models who dared to speak loud and clear about food disorders in the fashion world. Coco has recognized that being a newcomer she felt a great pressure and remembers she got haunted by weight problems after a trip to Singapore where she gained half a kilo. In an e-mail sent to Associated Press, Coco claimed she would never forget the advice she received when some people noticed her new situation and told her she had to lose some weight. Coco said that in the fashion world people search for models who look anorexic without being anorexic.

Coco Rocha is married with interior designer James Conran since June 9, 2010. Coco has being included by Vogue Paris on the list of the 2000,s best models and in 2008 she posed for the famous Pirelli calendar. During the month of July 2010, the Canadian model wrote a daily column in Vogue.com.uk titled “Today I’m wearing” where she showed her daily choice of fashion and style and the following month Coco Rocha appeared in a poster in Time Square as a part of an ad campaign launched by Marie Claire and Project Runway and consisting of a kind of design competition where, as the first prize, Coco would wear the winner's design on the runway. She was one of the first top models in the 1990,s together with Claudia Schiffer or Cindy Crawford. Today’s post is dedicated to American model and actress Amber Valletta. Amber Valletta was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 9, 1974. Her mother was a post office worker and when Amber was a little girl she moved together with her family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she attended the “Booker T Washington” High School. Her beginnings in the fashion world were a bit atypical. Since her childhood, Amber always wanted to study Sociology and work in the social field. However, and aged 15, here mother realized that she had an astonishing beauty that stood out from the rest of her classmates and enrolled Amber in Linda Layman’s agency model school.

The agency sent Amber to Milan where she got her first important assignment, a photo shoot for Vogue Italy. Amber moved to Paris and soon became a sensation succeeding where Cindy Crawford or Claudia Schiffer were not able to. She’s not as famous as Adriana Lima or Bar Refaeli but, as far as beauty is concerned, she has nothing to envy to most of the current top models. Here you are some clues about her identity. She’s French. She’s strutted the catwalk for Gucci, Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Victoria’s Secret and starred in ad campaigns for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hifiger, and Oscar de la Renta amongst others. She appeared in Ricky Martin’s video “Private Emotions” and in the cover of the most important fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue, and Elle. Most probably you already know who she is. Let’s talk about Aurelie Claudel’s modeling career. In February 1997, four years after her lucky discovery, Aurelie made her debut at the New York Fashion Week walking for Calvin Klein, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, and Vivienne Tam’s Fall fashion shows and appearing for the first time in November of the same year in the cover of Cosmopolitan. Dear readers of sport&beauty. Do you remember Dolce Gabbana’s Light Blue TV commercial a couple of years ago? A sun-tanned hunky guy (David Gandy), a gorgeous gal lying in a dinghy (Marija Vujovic) and a romantic Italian melody? This year Light Blue has launched its new TV commercial. David Gandy is the male model again, the romantic Italian music hasn’t changed but there is no longer a dinghy and Maria Vujovic has disappeared from the scene. Of course, there is also a girl that gets out of the water in a tiny white bikini swimsuit and kisses David passionately. She’s the Polish top model Anna Jagodzinska and she’s, at least, as gorgeous as Maria. Anna Jagodzinska is not a newcomer in the fashion world. She has starred in some controversial ads for Calvin Klein jeans, advertised DKNY lingerie and appeared in fashion magazines such as Vogue Italy, Australia and Germany, Numéro, L’Officiel and the French “Revue des Modes”. Although her decision was deemed by some as a suicide, she returned in style in 2008 to walk for Donna Karan, Balenciaga, Chanel, Givenchy, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, andy Viktor & Rolf in New York and Paris. During her voluntary retirement, she hadn’t lost an inch of her natural beauty and style and, on top of that, she had learned a lot of Maths, Chemistry, History, and Physics. Dear readers of sport&beauty. Today we’re going to Africa. We are visiting Namibia to learn about one of the youngest and most promising models in the fashion world nowadays. Today’s guest lives in New York although she was born in Namibia and discovered in South Africa. I’ll give you some more clues. She’s spokesperson for PINK, Victoria’s Secret youngsters fashion brand and has already walked in the 2008 and 2009 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows. I think your educated guess is right because we are going to talk about Namibian model Behati Prinsloo, one of the last to sign for the Victoria’s Secret Angels team. Here you are Behati Prinsloo, a real PINK princess.

Behati Prinsloo was born on May 16, 1989 in Grootfontein, Namibia. The daughter of a Nambian Minister, Behati wanted to be a marine biologist and had never given a thought to the idea of becoming a model. However, her life would change in 2005 at the age of sixteen. While in a supermarket during her holidays in South Africa, Behati Prinsloo was approached by a photographer who asked her if she was a model. Some days later, Behati dropped at the model agency where Sarah Doukas (the founder of Storm Model Management who also discovered Kate Moss) immediately realized that Behati had everything to became a top model. Behati Prinsloo made her debut in September 2005 in Paris and Milan walking for Miu Miu and Prada’s Spring Summer fashion shows. Besides her catwalk work, Behati also appeared in a Vogue UK editorial photographed by Paolo Roversi and starred in Kurt Geiger’s Fall ad campaign. Finally in December she was photographed by Miles Aldridge for Vogue Italy.

Behati started 2006 in style. In February she walked the runway in Milan and Paris for Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Fendi, Alexander McQueen, and Chanel’s Fall Winter fashion shows. In March, the Namibian model appeared again in Vogue UK although this time she was photographed by the famous Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. The following year Behati Prinsloo extended her contract with Marc by Marc Jacobs and starred in Hugo by Hugo Boss ad campaign and Neiman Marcus’ catalogue. In February 2007 Henry Holland dedicated the charming Behati a funny t-shirt of his Fall collection featuring the inscription: “Fancy a screw. Behati Prinsloo?” Perhaps Behati Prinsloo wasn’t very popular yet but this controversial t-shirt greatly boosted her popularity. In September 2007 Behati starred in Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall ad campaign alongside the Canadian model Coco Rocha and closed in New York the Lacoste’s Fall fashion show and in October walked trudged the runway in Paris for the Akris, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Stella McCartney’s Spring fashion shows.

2008 was a frantic year for our new friend Behati. She started the year starring in Gap and DKNY’s Spring Summer ad campaigns and replacing Natasha Poly as the spokesperson of Nina West. In February Behati appeared in Vogue Italy alongside the legendary ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov, walked for Carolina Herrera, Hervé Léger, Narciso Rodriguez, Zac Posen, MaxMara, and Chanel’s Fall Winter fashion shows in New York, Milan, and Paris and signed a contract with Victoria’s Secret to become spokesperson of the sub brand PINK. In April Behati appeared in a Harper’s Bazaar editorial, starred in Virgin’s “Rich Girls” videoclip and appeared in Victoria’s Secret catalogue alongside fellow models Rachel Clark and Chanel Iman. In September Behati is featured in Vogue Germany and opened Yigal Azrouel’s Fall Winter fashion show in New York. Finally in December Behati Prinsloo made her dreams come true when she made her debut in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show alongside the beautiful Victoria’s Secret Angels.

Behati Prinsloo started 2009 making a photo shoot for Lacoste alongside fellow models Alyona Osmanova and Hyoni Kang. In January, Behate made it to the cover of RUSH magazine and in February she opened Christian Siriano’s Fall fashion show in New York. Back to the magazines, in April the Namibian model appeared in Vogue Spain photographed by Alix Malka. She returned to the catwalk in September in New York walking for Behnaz Sarafpour, Diane Von Furstenberg, Lacoste, and Zac Posen’s Spring Summer collections. The following month Behati appeared in Flair Italy and in November she repeated participation in the greatest show on Earth, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

At the beginning of 2010 Behati Prinsloo moved from Supreme Management to Women Management. In March Behati made it to the cover of Elle France and in May appeared on the cover of Marie Claire South Africa alongside models Candice Swanepoel and Heidi Verster. This season Behati has walked the runway for Behnaz Sarafpour, Diane von Furstenberg, Lacoste, Milly, Tibi, and Zac Posen’s Spring Summer fashion shows and Arise, African Collective, Diane von Furstenberg, Georges Chakra, and Lacoste’s Fall Winter collections. Finally Behati has appeared in the summer issue of i-D magazine. As you can see Behati is very busy and doesn’t have a minute for herself.

Talking about her personal life, Behati is dating model Jamie Strachan with whom she’s currently living. She’s good friend with Canadian model Coco Rocha that often writes about Behati on her blog. Behati is ranked 13th on models.com’s list of the world’s sexiest models. In addition to starring in the aforementioned videoclip, Behati has also appeared in the first episode of MTV’s reality show “The City”. Talking about her hobbies, she likes basketball.
